Career - Medical Science / Biomedical Science
In the context of a Bachelor degree, Medical Science (or Medical Laboratory Science or Biomedical Science) usually refers to a pre-designed or highly structured degree consisting of subjects associated with human biology and human health. Subjects may include biology, anatomy, physiology, chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, genetics, hematology, histology, immunology, neurobiology, pathology and more. Given the large laboratory component and the vast array of subject material, Bachelor of Medical Science graduates may obtain employment as laboratory assistants, laboratory technicians or laboratory officers in a number of laboratory settings including pathology labs, hospital labs, fertility labs, blood banks, research labs, regulatory labs and testing labs. If a senior position in medical research is desired, study to more advanced levels (such as Honours, Masters or PhD) is usually required. Based on the variety of subjects covered, Medical Science graduates are usually capable of adapting to almost any area of investigation for higher research degrees.
